Sharon Umber arrived in Bucharest in June 2018 to begin her position as Consul General. She joined the Foreign Service in 2001. Her previous consular related tours include Regional Consular Officer (providing guidance and support to officers in 10 to 12 small consular sections predominantly in Latin America), Karachi, Warsaw, Managua and Minsk. She has also served in Washington in the Visa Office, on the INR Watch, and in the Office of International Religious Freedom.
Sharon grew up in Minnesota and received a degree in Psychology from the Minnesota State University in Moorhead and a law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School. She speaks Romanian, Spanish, Russian, as well as more limited Mandarin and Polish. Sharon has three adult children and one grandson.
