Teachers and high school students, along with American diplomats gathered today at Grand Cinema in Mall Baneasa Shopping City to honor the winners of the student video contest “Stand up for someone’s rights today.”
This contest was launched on December 8, 2016 to mark the Human Rights Day. The Embassy received 74 videos from 24 high schools and colleges throughout Romania. The videos were judged on effectiveness in raising awareness about protecting human rights, on originality and creativity, and on video quality by a jury composed of Americans affiliated with the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Romania.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Chief of Mission Dean Thompson congratulated all participants and encouraged them to stay as enthusiastic as they were today in protecting human rights.
The U.S. Embassy partnered in this program with Bucharest Municipality, which offered gifts to the finalists. Daniela Stanculescu, Head of Tourism Division, Department for Culture, Education and Tourism of the Bucharest Municipality also addressed the audience and presented the finalists with gifts.
